Project facts
MT Guesthouse is a rancho, an open pavilion that complements the main house.
The design includes a pool and outdoor terrace, a music room and a guest bedroom with its own bathroom and private space, separate from the main house for the guests' comfort. Views toward neighbouring buildings that affected privacy were closed off, and the rancho opens instead to the sunset sky.
Reading the site
MT Guesthouse is on a lot in Playa Langosta, beside the main house, with neighbouring buildings close enough to affect privacy. The open view from the site is toward the west and the sunset sky.
Key decision
We designed the guesthouse, about 50 m², as a rancho, an open pavilion separate from the main house, so guests have their own bedroom, bathroom and private space. The sides that looked toward the neighbours were closed off, and the pool, the terrace and the music room open to the sunset instead. The guest bedroom and music room sit apart from the main house, so guests and hosts each keep their own space.
