Villa Viva is a landscape design in Playa Grande. A curved pool with in-water loungers sits at its centre, edged by a timber deck and a lawn planted with new palms. Stepping-stone paths on gravel, bordered with river stone, lead to a sand volleyball court and to the existing dry forest trees, which were kept; the hammocks hang between them.
At night, low bollards mark the paths and uplights pick out the palms.
Reading the site
The lot in Playa Grande already had mature dry forest trees, and the design started from them. They decided where the shade falls, where the paths could run and which parts of the garden stay open to the sun for the lawn and the new palms.
Key decision
We kept the existing trees and organised the garden around a curved pool at the centre, with the timber deck and the lawn on its edges. Gravel paths with stepping stones lead out to the volleyball court and into the trees, where the hammocks hang between the trunks instead of from new structures. At night, low bollards mark the paths.
